You know who lives in suburbs and likes it? Lots of people! I’m Rachel, the realtor, here giving you the scoop on all things Kansas City. And yes, in Kansas City, many, many, many people live in suburbs. In fact, more people live in suburbs than actually live in Kansas City itself. It’s a huge part of our community. Let’s explore, shall we?
Liberty: A Unique Blend of Old and New
Liberty is on the smaller side of what you might consider a suburb, with about 30,000 people calling Liberty, Missouri, home. In larger cities, that would be considered a small town, but here in the Metro, it’s definitely in the suburb category.
Liberty has what you might think of as typical suburbia: cookie-cutter neighborhoods, chain restaurants, and big box stores. But, it also boasts Liberty Square – a super cute downtown shopping district. This district is home to locally-owned boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, and more. This unique mix ensures that Liberty isn’t just “beige suburbia.” There are pockets that are older and have a lot of character, while still offering the convenience of big developments like Target, Walmart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.
Housing Options Galore
The difference between the shopping districts mirrors the variety of homes in Liberty. From high-priced, lavish new constructions to mid-range, cookie-cutter houses, to homes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Liberty offers it all. There are also homes on acreage and old farmhouses. Depending on your price point and taste, Liberty has a pocket perfect for you.
Focus on Education
Next, let’s talk about schools.
Liberty is a suburb people often choose for its school district. While I’m not an education expert, I do research for you guys. According to niche.com, Liberty Public Schools rank as the fifth-best school district in the entire Kansas City metro area. My mom has taught in Liberty school districts for years, and from what I’ve gathered, most educators are content there. In addition to various middle and elementary schools, there’s also William Jewell College, a four-year university known for its nursing program, among other offerings.
Liberty’s Prime Location
A huge bonus of living in Liberty, Missouri, is its location. It’s close to the airport, which is a boon for frequent travelers. Other suburbs are much farther away. Also, downtown Kansas City is a short drive away, perfect for those who enjoy city life. However, if you’re looking to work in places like Overland Park or Leewood, be prepared for a longer commute.
Conclusion: The Charm of Liberty
So, Liberty makes my list of the stars of Kansas City suburbs. It offers a mix of shopping options, from big box stores to charming local spots. There’s a wide range of housing options, highly-rated schools, and the location is ideal, especially for those who travel frequently.
Liberty, Missouri, is undoubtedly on my list of best suburbs in the Kansas City metro area.
