When choosing a new area to move to, one of the most important factors to consider is the schools. It’s important to know what your community offers and where they stack up compared to other surrounding school districts. Even though I may not be a prominent expert on schools, I know where to go to find the answers when it comes to the best schools in the Kansas City metro area.

So, here’s a quick overview of the top schools in the area. We’ll break them down into three categories:

Best Elementary Schools in Kansas City

Greatschools.org is an excellent source to gather information about schools in the KC area. This site ranks schools on a scale of 1 to 10, and these local elementary schools scored the highest. They include:

  • Clardy Elementary School – 8.0
  • Shoal Creek Elementary School – 8.0
  • Bell Prairie Elementary School – 8.0
  • Kellybrook Elementary School – 7.0
  • Ewing Marion Kauffman (Public Charter School) – 7.0
  • Border Star Montessori School (Pre-K thru 6th Grade) – 7.0
  • Maplewood Elementary School – 7.0
  • Nashua Elementary School – 7.0

Nearly all of these schools are located in Kansas City, MO, which is perfect if you want to stay within the city limits. Even though there are only seven schools listed, just remember, the Kansas City area is filled with hundreds of fantastic elementary schools.

Best High Schools in Kansas City

If you have children getting ready for high school or are currently in high school, it is critical that they attend an institution that gives them the curriculum needed to be successful. Fortunately, Kansas City offers some of the top high schools in the country. According to usnews.com, here are the top 10 high schools in the KC area. These rankings are based on many factors, including graduation rates and college readiness.

  • Sumner Academy High School – Kansas City, KS
  • Lincoln College Prep – Kansas City, MO
  • Blue Valley North High School – Overland Park, KS
  • Blue Valley West High School – Overland Park, KS
  • Blue Valley Northwest High School – Overland Park, KS
  • Olathe Northwest High School – Olathe, KS
  • Shawnee Mission East High School – Prairie Village, KS
  • Blue Valley High School – Overland Park, KS
  • Park Hill High School – Kansas City, MO
  • Staley High School – Kansas City, MO

Top School Districts in Kansas City

Many of the top high schools are part of amazing school districts. In this list of Kansas City’s top school districts, you’ll see some familiar names reappear that I previously mentioned on my top high schools list. The following ten school districts, according to niche.com, have all received at least an “A” grade on their overall performance. Some even received an “A+” grade! They are:
