If you’re thinking about moving to the Kansas City area, you’re making a wise decision! As an avid KC resident and real estate agent, I absolutely love our community for a wide variety of reasons. Let me share some of the top reasons (in no particular order) why you should make Kansas City your new home.
(I cover all these topics a little more in-depth on my YouTube channel, check it out!)
1. Food
Kansas City is known nationally and worldwide for its barbecue, and rightfully so! With mouth-watering restaurants like Q39, Gates, Jack’s Stack, Arthur Bryant’s, Joe’s Kansas City, and more, you’ve got endless options to get your barbecue fix. Although we are widely known for our barbecue in Kansas City, we still boast many other fine dining options, like steakhouses, seafood restaurants, Italian restaurants, and many other options.
2. Sports
We love our sports in Kansas City, and feature teams from a wide variety of sports. If you love football or baseball, the Chiefs and Royals are two of our most popular teams to follow. We also offer soccer (Sporting KC and KC Current), hockey (Mavericks), and host the Big XII basketball tournament every March.
Even if you aren’t a big sports fan, these events are a great place to socialize. Bring friends, organize a work outing, or meet new people––you’ll have a blast no matter who you’re with! Tailgating at Chiefs and Royals games or hanging out at the Power & Light district can often be more fun than the game itself!
3. Weather
Kansas City is the perfect place for someone who enjoys soaking in all four seasons. We get pool weather in the summer, crisp fall days, just enough snow to be festive in the winter, and then get rejuvenated during the warmth of spring. No matter what your favorite season is, you’ll get a few months of it every year!
4. Cost of Living
In Kansas City, we have lots of people who have relocated from both coasts because their dollar goes so much further here. According to move.org, of the top 74 most populous cities in the US, there are 63 that are more expensive than Kansas City. So, it’s easy to see why people are leaving the coast and heading to KC! It’s an affordable, fun, and wholesome area to relocate to.
5. Different Types of Living
No matter your comfort zone, Kansas City will offer an area that you will love. If you enjoy the city life, there are plenty of downtown living options that will fill your needs. Kansas City offers beautiful suburbs as well, such as Overland Park, Shawnee, and Olathe on the Kansas side. Cross the border to Missouri, and you’ll find fun towns like Lee’s Summit, Independence, and Liberty. Not to mention, the heart of Kansas City is just a short drive from many rural living options. The choice is yours!
6. Unique Neighborhoods
One thing people love about Kansas City is the diverse areas. If you make a trip to the city every weekend, you can find a different neighborhood that you’ll fall in love with every time! Whether it’s the concert venue at the Crossroads, the classy feel of The Plaza, or visiting the Boulevard Brewery on Southwest Boulevard, there’s always a fun area to explore.
7. Arts
Kansas City is a wonderful place to be if you’re a lover of the arts. The crown jewel of the city is the nationally recognized Nelson Atkins Art Museum, which features countless exhibits for all art enthusiasts. There’s also the Plaza Art Fair which takes place every September and is one of the most popular events in the city.
8. Parks and Lakes
If you’re a lover of the outdoors, then make sure you check out the numerous trails and parks throughout the city. Whether you’re a biker, jogger, walker, or just enjoy the fresh air, there’s guaranteed to be a park, lake, or trail near you.
9. Travel
If you love to travel throughout the US, Kansas City could not be a better location for your permanent residence. You’re a 3-hour flight or less from places like Miami, Las Vegas, and New York. You’re also within driving distance of other major cities like Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Denver. Kansas City truly is the perfect, centralized location.
10. People
I always encourage people that aren’t from the area to spend a few days here and go out and meet the locals. You’ll be blown away by the kindness and hospitality throughout the city. It’s like that every day here in Kansas City, and it’s one of the biggest reasons why so many people choose to call KC home.
